TACOMA, WA. — While Labor Day marks the end of the regular season throughout the minor leagues, Mariners first-base prospect Evan White will be getting back to work before too long.

White, 22, is ticketed for the Arizona Fall League, which bills itself as a finishing school for top prospects, in an effort to continue a hot closing kick at Hi-A Modesto that has him on a fast-track development schedule.

“He’s got that Gold Glove-type defense and he can run and play first base,” farm director Andy McKay told the Tacoma News Tribune. “And he’s been hitting the ball as hard as anybody. He’s put together a very solid season.”

White is the organization’s minor-league player of the month for August after posting a .375/.462/.727 slash in 23 games for the Nuts with 18 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs.

Double-A Arkansas right-hander Williams Perez, 27, is the pitcher of the month after going 4-0 with a 1.62 ERA in six starts while striking our 35 and walking just four in 39 innings.

KLAY (1180 AM) picks a player and pitcher of the month throughout the season for each of the Mariners’ affiliates and an overall player and pitcher of the month for the entire farm system.

The station will announce its season awards later in September.

White was the Mariners’ first-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, while Perez is a veteran who made 34 appearances for Atlanta in 2015-16. He was pitching in the independent Frontier League when signed by the Mariners in early June.

The individual affiliate citations for August:

***Triple-A Tacoma: Catcher David Freitas was always a likely September recall, but he strengthened his status in August by batting .348 with four homers and 17 RBIs in 23 games. Righty reliever Shawn Armstrong received an overdo promotion after working 10 scoreless outings in August.

***Double-A Arkansas: Outfielder Dario Pizzano, a long-time organization farmhand, posted a .303/.369/.444 slash in 26 games. Perez solidified a comeback season with a dominating month.

***Hi-A Modesto: White’s strong finish could propel him past outfielder Kyle Lewis as the organization’s top prospect. Right-hander Austin Hutchison, a 26th-round pick in 2017, was 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA in five starts.

***Lo-A Clinton: Catcher Juan Camacho slashed a soft .315/.333/.389 in 17 games for the weak-hitting LumberKings. Right-handed reliever Sam Delaplane is wrapping up a strong season by compiling a 1.38 ERA in nine outings with 23 strikeouts in 13 innings.

***Short-A Everett: Catcher Cal Raleigh, a third-round pick this season, slashed .301/.377/.591 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 24 games. Lefty Orlando Razo, a 16th-round pick in 2017, was 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA in five starts.

***Rookie Peoria: 1B Danny Contreras, a 20-year-old Dominican signed in 2014, batted .289 with 10 RBIs in 12 games, while lefty reliever Nick Wegmann, a 34th-round pick this year, had a 1.74 ERA in six games with 13 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings.

Dominican Summer League: Outfielder Julio Rodriguez, an 18-year-old who received a $1.75 million bonus in 2017, solidified his status as one of organization’s top prospect by slashing .375/.500/.750 in 12 games, while right-hander Jesus Ozoria, 20, was 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA with two saves in two opportunities.
